east bristol contemporary (ebc) is an artist-led gallery based at the trinity centre, bristol, and established in 2016.

ebc seeks to counteract the lack of established showing spaces for grass roots contemporary artists in bristol, and to establish a unique and diverse programme of exhibitions and events. ebc additionally aims to support artists based in the south west. for two years we were the only non commercial artist led gallery producing a regular programme in the city.

we work with many different artists from all over the uk and further afield, often within the first 10 years of their career, bringing their artworks to new audiences in the city, often for the first time. we seek to be an inclusive environment working with artists from all backgrounds.

ebc values paying artists, and with funding from the arts council england we have been able to pay our invigilators too (one of the few art galleries in bristol that currently achieves that).

we run events for the public, including artist talks/tours, workshops, screenings, performances and opening events as well as an instagram residency. almost all of our events are free to attend. that’s zero pounds. for up to date information on what we are up to, you can sign up to our mailing list.

another major strand of our work is the ebc night school; an alternative education series of artist talks, workshops, and 1-2-1s. each term lasts for 6 weeks. the ebc night school is hosted in kind by arnolfini, bristol.

ebc is located on the first floor of the trinity centre and is accessed from the front of the building, wheelchair access is available via a lift located at the side entrance. we often provide audio descriptions for blind and visually-impaired visitors. if there is anything we can do to assist your visit to the gallery please let us know.

ebc is located 15 minutes walk from bristol temple meads station, camera monitored pay and display parking is available in the trinity centre car park.

ebc is co-directed by jack lewdjaw & karanjit panesar.

rung (ebc’s in house sister publication) is co-edited by frances kelly & izzy emberson.

ebc is currently funded by the arts council england.

we are always looking for collaborators, conversations, and opportunities; so if you want to chat just send us an email.
