Brooklyn Oenology Winery (pron. ‘EN-ology’ or simply ‘BOE’), is a locally-focused winery based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, founded in 2006 by winemaker Alie Shaper. BOE extends the fundamental idea of terroir, which is essentially a combination of factors that create a wine’s sense of “place,” by incorporating the local agricultural, creative culinary, and art worlds.
Brooklyn Oenology Winery works directly with local artists to celebrate the creativity happening all around us. And since our creativity is inside the bottle, and because you taste with your eyes first, we seek out a unique work to represent each of our wines. This ‘creativity partnership’ – from the agricultural, to the culinary, to the visual, is our celebration of our part of the world.
We respect our artists and their work tremendously and have worked with so many talented people. We usually approach artists directly after seeing their work in online image galleries, at sidewalk tables, local art fairs, etc.; most of the artists we work with are not represented by galleries.
