Original artwork information

About the artwork
D J Roberts created this A2 poster for the fundraiser season 'Generator' at Bobinska Brownlee. Roberts has made a series of 'book' paintings, referencing Dutch 17th century still life paintings which meticulously depict objects of value to their owner. In this series, D J Roberts references this approach, choosing works which hold great personal meaning for him. 'How to stand up to a dictator' is the cover of a book by courageous Nobel-prize winning activist and journalist Maria Ressa. BBNR ran the Generator season as a demonstration of solidarity with Ukrainian and Iranian civilians, and the sentiment expressed in the title of Ressa's book seemed very appropriate for our fundraiser. The proceeds of the sale of this poster go to the British-Ukrainian charity KHARPP. D J Roberts is a graduate of Central St Martins College of Art and Design (BA Hons) and Sidney Sussex College Cambridge (MA History). His practice includes painting, drawing, performance and public interventions. Recent shows include An Enormous Yes Bobinska Brownlee 2022 and Larkinworld National Poetry Library London/University of Hull 2017/2022.
