Opened in 2011 in Montreal, Arsenal Contemporary Art has since expanded to include locations in Toronto (2013) and New York (2017). Although some exhibitions travel from one location to another, the programming of each location is tailored to its respective community, space, and audience.

Arsenal Contemporary Art Toronto

In order to include Canada’s largest city in the initiative, Arsenal Contemporary Art opened in Toronto’s Junction neighborhood in 2013. Since then, many more cultural venues have moved close by, including the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in 2018.

Arsenal Contemporary Art Toronto is located in a refurbished industrial building. It is one of the rare privately held locations, of sufficient size to host large-scale contemporary art exhibitions, in Toronto. Some of these exhibitions tour to the other Arsenal Contemporary Art locations.

Like the other Arsenal Contemporary Art locations, Arsenal Contemporary Art Toronto is a popular spot for hosting local cultural and philanthropic events, which help widen the audience for contemporary art to include people who have other interests and would otherwise probably not visit its exhibitions.
