Arsenal Contemporary Art, New York

Opened in 2011 in Montreal, Arsenal Contemporary Art has since expanded to include locations in Toronto (2013) and New York (2017). Although some exhibitions travel from one location to another, the programming of each location is tailored to its respective community, space, and audience.

Arsenal Contemporary Art New York

Located on Bowery Street in front of the New Museum on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Arsenal Contemporary Art’s newest satellite space shows both Canadian and international artists, who, for the most part, have not yet had their work showcased in the city.

To date, Arsenal Contemporary Art New York has embraced a collaborative mode of operation. It collaborates on projects with international curators and galleries to show Canadian contemporary artists alongside artists from elsewhere.

In some cases, the collaboration has taken the form of an exchange where a Canadian contemporary artist is asked to exhibit internationally in exchange for an international artist showing at Arsenal Contemporary Art New York. In all cases, the projects have led to a larger platform for Canadian contemporary artists in New York and beyond, in solo as well as group presentations.
