A new visual installation presented by Watermans as part of the EU funded project Artcast4D by spatial artist Tendayi Vine which explores the impact of the gutta percha tree.

Mirror Cities: Into the Earth is an outdoor visual artwork that builds on spatial artist Tendayi Vine’s work exploring the significance of the Gutta Percha tree in the development of global communications. Situated in Bell Square, Hounslow, West London, the interactive installation builds on research into how the tree became a feature of the internet's physical landscape. Until 3 April.

Human habitats are simultaneously ancient and new and the meaning we make from them is constantly reshaped by human technological dependencies. The installation explores the infrastructures of digital and virtual spaces by framing them as imagined environments - images of landscape shaped by myth, story and superstition.

This installation is part of the EU funded Artcast4D project which enables artists to explore the use of interactive technologies in their work and utilises AAASeed software to drive the interactive elements.

Mirror Cities: Into the Earth is a project networked with Hounslow’s twin town Issy-les-Moulineaux in France where the artist Jaime Jimenez’s project explores the principle of audio-visual performance: mapping the results, by mixing painting, video and live music with drawing. Visual relays between the two locations will be shared, with Tendayi Vine’s work in Hounslow also being seen in France and vice versa.
