LA Spotlight: Evan Whale's The End of Sunset at Tyler Park Presents

25 Nov 2024

by Jody Zellen

Evan Whale resides in The Forgotten Edge, where Sunset Boulevard ends and diverse Los Angeles neighborhoods meet. Over five years, developers have displaced local culture with luxury apartments. In "The End of Sunset," Whale captures this transformation through photographic works, exploring the precarious Southern California landscape and memory erasure.

Evan Whale is an artist residing just west of downtown Los Angeles in a neighborhood known as "The Forgotten Edge," where Echo Park, Angelino Heights, Chinatown, and Downtown converge. He has spent several years documenting and lamenting the changes in this area. Through mixed-media and photographic works, he seeks to make sense of, and in some ways preserve, what is being lost. In his exhibition at Tyler Park Presents, The End of Sunset, he combines photographs and artifacts, juxtaposing these fragments to create mementos that address collective memory.
