Step into any gallery in Manchester this summer and you'll find exciting exhibitions exploring timely themes, from museum decolonisation to the climate crisis.
Alongside major museum exhibitions, there are thought-provoking shows at the city's smaller public venues. At Castlefield Gallery, Jessica El Mal and Parham Ghalamdar explore the geopolitical significance of rainfall through ceramics, paintings and installation. Dinu-Lu's show at esea contemporary delves into cultural history and memory, taking visitors from the night markets of Hong Kong to the blues parties of Moss Side, via Chinese-Jamaican recording studios. Lastly, at New Adelphi Gallery, Visibilities is a critical look at the legacy of the University of Salford's art collection, including work by Hetain Patel, Jai Redman and Gavin Turk.
