Six artists explore the artistic representation, measurement, recording and reflection of time. They investigate its shapes and its residues, its possible expansion and compression between moment and duration. How does time become visible – as a process, in the material or in the image?

Six artists explore the artistic representation, measurement, recording and reflection of time. They investigate its shapes and its residues, its possible expansion and compression between moment and duration. How does time become visible – as a process, in the material or in the image?
Time and light allow images to emerge and fade as if by themselves. This can be achieved by taking photographs with a pinhole camera in long exposures or by exposing material to light over long periods of time. In Ute Lindner’s work, duration becomes visible through physical processes in the material, while in Karen Stuke’s work it is revealed in scenarios that deal with both holding on to something and its disappearance.
Petra Karadimas’ photographs of urban spaces are initially snapshots of everyday life, but they are also compositions of structure and colour that create a two-dimensional and at the same time stage-like spatial density and a simultaneity of historical time periods.
Everyday routines become an artistic production process in the work of Albert Weis: daily walking, scraping and scratching leave traces of wear and tear on the floor. The mechanical processes inscribe themselves permanently on the material or, as in the case of Lukas Grundmann, they destroy the information inscribed in them through the act of repetitive retrieval.
Albert Coers transforms the Kunstverein’s book archive, which embodies contemporary history as a real weight and as a sculptural mass, into floating structures that bear witness to the fragility of time between clinging to the past and constant change.
The exhibition is the prelude to the 20th anniversary of Kunstverein Tiergarten, which is dedicated to the phenomenon of time and temporality from various perspectives.
