Zoo by Richard Billingham at Wolverhampton Art Gallery

About

Zoo is Billingham's compelling series of photography and video installations, inspired by childhood visits to Dudley Zoo in the 1970s. The artist spent time studying animals in zoos throughout the world, from the UK to South America, to produce this work.

Billingham questions the uneasy relationships between the public audience and captive animals and paradox of animals removed from their natural environment being unnaturally preserved.

Birmingham born artist Richard Billingham shot to fame in the mid1990's and has since achieved awards, international recognition and been shortlisted for the 2001 Turner Prize.

Exhibition commissioned and produced by VIVID.
