Screening & In Conversation with Dr Katherine Angel

About

Zoe Williams - Standpoint Futures Residencies 2015
Screening & In Conversation with Dr Katherine Angel

For this event our current Standpoint Futures resident artist Zoe Williams will present a screening of new material made during her residency. Followed by an ‘in conversation’ with historian, writer and former Wellcome Trust Fellow - Dr Katherine Angel, whose work explores sexuality, feminism and desire.

Zoe Williams' practice is primarily concerned with the creation of immersive environments and objects, which, holding a veneer of seduction, seek to access the cerebral through sensual experience. Her work sets out to implement an irreverent dialogue between craft, eroticism, notions of excess and hedonism and the histories of artefacts and their materialities.

Those attending the event will be invited to engage physically with some of the objects and personal care products that Williams' has been working with including body butters, oils and scent. An aromatic drink created specifically for the event will also be served throughout the evening.

Zoe Williams (based in Glasgow) is currently on residency at Standpoint Gallery, as part of Standpoint Futures Residencies 2015.

Taking place at Standpoint Gallery, London, Standpoint Futures Residencies are for emerging/mid career artists, designed to be flexible and responsive to the project, needs and desired outcomes of individual participants. The residency's chief aims are to provide high quality, individualized opportunities to develop the artist's practice and career, and to integrate London and the regional UK art world to promote access and the exchange of ideas.
