From Friday to Friday, May 7 to 14, 2021, the Zlin Design Week festival will wave the waters of Czech design. In addition to the well-known names of the Czech and international design scene, the eight-day program will also offer a number of workshops, exhibitions, and an accompanying program; participants can also look forward to an online excursion through Zlin.

Zlin Design Week is a festival inextricably linked with Tomas Bata University and the city of Zlin, known as one of the largest cultural events there. Its main idea is ​​connecting, sharing, inspiring, and bringing the overall approach to design as an area that is not only intended for a small group of people but on the contrary, is a part of the lives of us all.

This is one of the reasons why the organizers will appreciate the new talents in this field for the twelfth time in the Best in Design competition. The prizes will be awarded in three categories, which this year included almost 400 works from around the world. And it is the design representatives from the Zlin Region who will participate in the evaluation of the most innovative and beneficial ideas, specifically Richard Vodička from the Egoé studio in Bílovice, or the chief designer of Tescoma, Ladislav Škoda.

You will find out who will be the holder of the Best in Design 2021 title on May 7, 2021, at 7 pm during the broadcast on the Zlin Design Week’s website and social networks. The evening’s moderator will be the actor Jan Cina.

The program of the following days will continue, for example, by the Conference. Speakers such as the owner of the Slovak optics IOKO, Dana Prekopová, or Joana Lacerda from Portugal, who is involved in connecting the clothing industry with technology, will show how design and marketing can work together. At first glance, two different, but mutually very beneficial fields.

“We are working to make Zlin Design Week a firm place in the cultural calendars of locals and visitors from all over the country and abroad. We believe in the value that design brings to society - for some visitors, the festival can be a great place to learn something new about design, for some, it is a space for inspiration and new contacts, ”says Jitka Smolíková, the festival’s manager.

So let a little dose of design get into your homes and visit, for example, an online exhibition with dozens of projects mapping the topic of COOPERATION, enjoy the fashion show on May 7 at 8 pm, and on Sunday, May 9, at 8 pm do a home concert with the Hello Marcel band or take part in one of the workshops.

Zlin Design Week is grateful for its existence primarily to the Faculty of Multimedia Communications of Tomas Bata University.
