About

For his solo presentation, Yuri Pattison will address The Open Office to the limits of its name, gesturing towards the corporate implications and aesthetics we associate with the term ‘office'. Presenting images in forms such as prints and digital freezes; he will utilize a range of materials to produce the image-works for his show - from photocopy toners, to Amazon Kindle™. Pattison's practice considers digital products and media as vehicles for the production and dissemination of imagery, further scrutinizing the contexts around which these technologies are born. Through his tactile use of technology as both tool and material from which to create works, Pattison confronts the image-as-object within the prosumer turn, the promise of individuality via consumption and customization. The proficiency, with which his own brand of ‘customization' is applied, also allows for our own belief in the product to be put into question. Thus we wonder if it is an easy ascendancy over the object, or a struggle against it - a demand for authenticity in the face of mass production. The Open Office is moderately staged as a ‘back end' to the West's industrialised past and is a physical space in which to investigate concepts such as ‘playbouring' and the performance aesthetics of production. Pattison's redesign emphasizes, in particular, the strain on traditional approaches to art (/object) production, limitations of material and liminality in digital images and space. Yuri Pattison has exhibited in solo shows at both Son Gallery and [ S P A C E ], reviewed in Frieze and commissioned by Arcadia_Missa Publications, from which he was invited for this O-O ‘takeover'. Opening: 6 - 9 pm Friday 27th July (as part of South London Art Map's Last Fridays event) Continues: 28th and 29th of July, gallery open 12 - 5 pm yuripattison.com arcadiamissa.com
