Shot mainly in close-up with a hand-held camera, Yoko Ono and John Lennon's film 'RAPE' generates some of the fear, provoked by the press, that surrounded the couple during the height of their fame.

About

“RAPE” (1969)

16mm film, colour, sound, 59 minutes 48 seconds

Dir. Yoko Ono and John Lennon

Drawn from the score, FILM NO. 5/"RAPE" (or CHASE), by Yoko Ono (1968), “RAPE” was made in London in 1969. Shot mainly in close-up with a hand-held camera, the film generates some of the fear, provoked by the press, that surrounded Ono and Lennon during the height of their fame.

Followed by a discussion and Q&A with Dr Tanya Horeck (Reader in Film, Media and Culture, Anglia Ruskin University) and Gabriella Daris (PhD Researcher, Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy, Kingston University London), moderated by Chris Owen (Honorary Visiting Senior Fellow, Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University).

This event is part of YOKO ONO: LOOKING FOR... and Cambridge Festival of Ideas.

Conceived and curated by Gabriella Daris, YOKO ONO: LOOKING FOR.. (2 March – 31 December 2019) is a 10-month, multi-site exhibition showcasing Ono’s work in Cambridge for the first time.

Featuring over ninety early, recent and new works that will evolve as the exhibition unfolds, YOKO ONO: LOOKING FOR… will offer the opportunity to immerse ourselves fully within Ono’s multifaceted world, demonstrating the wide-ranging scope of her artistic practice, spanning an array of media including text, painting, sculpture, installation, performance, event, music, film and video.

A diverse programme of events including interventions, installations, performances, screenings and symposia will take place at Lady Mitchell Hall, The Heong Gallery, Howard Theatre, Alison Richard Building, Ruskin Gallery, Mumford Theatre and Cambridge Junction as well as many public sites in the city.

Exhibition conceived and curated by Gabriella Daris.
