A group show of six NYC-based artists whose works discuss themes of intimacy, ritual, spirituality, and healing through the lens of their respective latinx identities.
yo tengo, sostengo, mantengo / i have, hold, keep features work by Valeria Divinorum, Angel Garcia, Elisa Garcia de la Huerta, Adrian E Rivera, Aya Rodriguez-Izumi, and Sal Muñoz.
Honoring the past and embracing the future, the word latinx is a current gender-neutral descriptor used by a large many of US-born folks of Latin heritage. The term however, which evolved from chicano to latino and now latinx, is a product of English injection. If has become a term absorbed by American consumerism and political spheres, and ignores the inherently gendered rules of the Spanish language, leaving some unsupportive of it. This dissonance among the population is as much a part of the conversations in this exhibition as others, and PARADICE PALASE recognizes that contrast. For this forthcoming show, all exhibiting artists embrace latinx as a part of their identities.
