About

The Brick Lane Gallery presents Works On Paper an exhibition featuring artists from across the globe as well as the UK, demonstrating their unique style and practise through the medium of paper. These artists share a common interest to discover the artistic potential and opportunity that paper can offer. Through the exploration of the texture, vitality and familiarity of this medium, artists explore a wide range of techniques, from drawings, paint and watercolours to prints and posters.

Portraiture is a common thread amongst the works exhibited, Olivia De Quatrebarbes, has depicted an imaginative world of characters in her series Them, which is based on emotions and feelings. Similarly, Lizard Heng uses watercolours, coloured ink and other mediums to create fashion-inspired portraits. Having graduated from design and art-related faculties, he fuses the traditional painting techniques with innovative contemporary designs. Also inspired by design is Daniele Fuggiano, whose work merges figures of the contemporary times with his Italian family heritage. Another exhibiting artist, Peter Blond was initially inspired by the art of etching, but seeking from a more mobile and immediate source of expression, he found in a normal ballpoint pen his favourite creative tool. Differently in their technique and styles Rebeca Valenciano and Yasmin Gilani find common ground by turning their focus on the human body. Artola projects in his works his fondness for landscape and presents in this exhibition an array of cityscapes and views of the Spanish countryside. Imaginative and almost fantastical are the works of Renata Sosinska and Turkish artist Zeynep Solakoglu. Works On Paper aims to explore the creative possibility of a simple medium and showcase different approaches and techniques.

You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of WORKS ON PAPER at The Brick Lane Gallery open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 23rd November 2016.
