As the title mentions, the show presents a wide variety of original works and limited edition prints on this medium that has captivated artists and collectors for centuries. Through striking watercolours and bold ink artworks to alluring pastels and dominating chalk pieces, the exhibition offers a wide array of unusual and engaging pieces of art. You will find in this highly detailed artworks, a unique intimacy that draws one in.
As the show is not focused on a specific genre or topic, you will discover a variety of themes. Cielleppi’s sugar – coated artworks carry an infantile appearance, which is juxtaposed with the sinister presence of the symbolic elements featured.
Using a variety of symbols, including mainly water and animals, Cielleppi toys mentally with the viewer’s experience. Taking a different source of inspiration, Millie Bartlett offers us an insight into the male gaze. Studying In women who are either over-glamourised or made to look like monsters from the planet Cellulite And No Make Up in the press, Millie takes the glamourised women from different eras and gives them a little hyperawareness and a skewed context, thus bringing the pop culture of the olden days into the contemporary; checking the collective lying detector to highlight how times have not changed.
