About
Engaging with the life of an early 20th century woman, Working from home camouflages signs of industrious activity within a domestic setting.
Embedding the tools and products of work within a turn-of-the-century dwelling, the work brings into focus everyday living and precarious labour through a historical lens.
The Museum of Bath at Work is concerned with the commercial development of Bath – one of the most famous cities in England-over 2000 years. From the Roman spa and market town to the fashionable resort of the 18th and the manufacturing centre of the 19th and 20th centuries, the museum features displays and reconstructed working environments. These include a Victorian ironmongers shop, early 20th century engineering and soft drinks making factory, a Bath stone mine, an 18th century cabinet makers workshop and a programme of temporary exhibitions and collaborations with artists, sculptors and musicians.
Working from home is funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
