Originally commissioned by The Collection, Lincoln, Woolly Spires takes its inspiration from Lincolnshire’s history.
About
In the past, many of the county’s churches were funded by wealthy landowners who made their fortune (quite literally) on the backs of the area’s iconic breed of sheep, the Lincolnshire Long Wool.
Since 2009, ArtsNK have brought together a range of community groups to create knitted versions of Lincolnshire churches, using the coat of the Lincolnshire Long Wool.
This exhibition features knitted versions of many well-known local churches, including St. Denys, Sleaford; St. Mary and St. Nicolas, Spalding; St. Botolph’s (the Stump), Boston; St. James’ Church, Louth; St. Wulfram’s Church, Grantham; and St. Mary’s Church (Stow Minster), Stow.
This project is funded by Arts Council England.
