An exhibition of woodcarvings by Gloucestershire artist Natasha Houseago.
About
Natasha Houseago has over thirty years of experience teaching woodcarving, exhibiting, and undertaking art projects, commissions and residencies in the UK and abroad. She often works outdoors, feeling connected to the earth, sky and seasons. This exhibition showcases her carved wood sculptures indoors, in the main Art Gallery at the Museum.
The artist always works with wood from trees which have come down naturally or through disease, giving the wood another lease of life and new beginnings. Her most recent project, based at Rococo Gardens, Painswick, has been an exploration of the effects of Ash dieback disease or ‘Chalara’.
She has always loved carving ash, so finds it incredibly sad that we may lose up to 95% of our ash tree population. However, she sees a glimmer of hope when she observes ash trees which, although infected, appear to be trying to overcome, adapt and survive.
We hope you enjoy this exhibition of carved wood sculptures, some playful, some serious. We also hope you can take time to walk through the special trees of Stratford Park which encircle the Museum and Gallery.
