Towner is collaborating with Manchester School of Art to present a Women in Print symposium.

About

Held at the Birley Centre, near Towner, these illustrated talks by academics and practitioners will evaluate the achievements of mid-century women designers and writers who deserve to be better known including Peggy Angus, Pearl Binder, Barbara Jones, Enid Marx, Dorothy Hartley and many others. The talks include: Illustrating Englishness, Desdemona McCannon The Marks and Modes of Modernism: Puffin Picture Books (1940-1965), Harriet Cory-Wright Perry Colour Books and WWII Women Camofleurs, Natalie Kay-Thatcher Peggy Angus — Art for Life — Designing, Travelling, Teaching, Carolyn Trant Design for Public Spaces, Lotte Beatrix My Mother Sheila Robinson, Chloe Cheese There will also be the chance to ask questions & buy limited tribute chapbooks, created by contemporary writers and illustrators for the project.
