About

From the turn of the twentieth century to the present, women have produced diverse and complex works of art for and in response to the Church. This talk explores the relationship between Christian sacred spaces, from vast and well-known cathedrals to rural chapels, and women artists in a period in which feminism, culture, and Christianity engaged in new dialogues. Artists including Winifred Knights, Elizabeth Frink, Enid Chadwick and Tracey Emin have encouraged the Church to include women and express sacramental theology in ways that continue to inspire and challenge.
