About

Thirty female artists from Bedford to Syria, New York to Ukraine present their visions of apocalypse, utopia and dystopia in this group show curated by NOHAT.

Ranging from the deeply personal to the universal, this cross-generational group of international artists address topics as diverse as environmental destruction, ageing, consumerism, war, genetics, religion and spirituality. Be prepared to be surprised at what you find in these imaginings of a world not yet here. From luminous mutant plants to open wounds, piƱatas and feral kids to aliens, communing with God, and a glittery phallus.

Painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography, textiles, are all represented, as well as performance pieces created especially for Woman Shall Inherit the Earth can be seen at the opening event and at various times during the exhibition.

NOHAT was founded by curators Sophie Atkins and Ana Ortega, born out of a frustration that the work of female artists often remains unseen and unrecognised, and out of a deep desire to bring about a change. We are not going to wait to be invited in, we will take space and make space for female artists.
