With Love From...

With Love From is an exhibition of postcard art by the learners from 4 special schools in Bristol, New Fosseway, Briarwood, Claremont (in collaboration with Henleaze Primary School) and Kingsweston School. The students are aged from 5 to 19 and have a wide range of learning difficulties and additional needs.

The brief for the art work was for each learner to make a piece of art on the back of a postcard. Schools were asked to work on any theme of their choosing, linking into their curriculum or completing the brief as an individual project. Learners could use any media they found inspiring or rewarding. Postcards could form a larger piece of a jigsaw or be stand-alone pieces of art. Some groups have worked on both sides of the postcard and other learners have posted their cards to the gallery, using their art in the manner a postcard is expected to be used, giving the work an extra dynamic element of it having travelled to the space itself.

The work is very transportable and the overall installation and arrangement of the individual pieces can be manipulated to create a different show in a different space should we decide to tour it around our respective schools after.

The exhibition enables our learners to work with their peers in different schools to produce a varied and exciting visual experience through the show, using the common factor of the postcard. Each piece is unique, created by individuals, but which forms a part of a larger ‘being’. Our learners welcome the opportunity to share their art at SPACE and to become part of the art community in Bristol.
