Jenn Ruff has created context for the resonant feminine wisdom that has always been scorned for not being soft, easy or pleasing.

About

Jenn Ruff transposes time and place in intricately structured paper cutouts, found objects, video, and celluloid in her first solo show in New York City. In this series titled Wise Woman on the Floor the artist has splintered narratives in homage to the wise woman, the wild woman, the wicked & the weird women.

Ruff has created context for the resonant feminine wisdom that has always been scorned for not being soft, easy or pleasing.  Her peculiar yet fluid juxtapositions illuminate the darker narrative of the wise woman on the floor.  Images of Colette and Anaïs Nin with apple seeds and x-acto blades; an old book cover from the Women of Wonder -- each engages us in the process of sensing the rational within the incongruous.

Jenn Ruff has exhibited her films and collages at Tracy Williams, I-20 and Fuch's Projects in New York, Blum & Poe in Los Angeles, Samson Projects in Boston, Taka Ishii in Tokyo among others. She is a founding member of the gorilla video collective Straight Thru The Wall that exhibits video art around the 5 boroughs targeting areas with little access to art. She has worked as the editor of numerous award winning commercial films and music videos and has been an editing professor at NYU’s Tisch Graduate School of Film for over 10 years.
