O3 Gallery have hand-picked a selection of artists who create images exploring moon-lit landscapes and the iconic imagery of the moon itself. This exhibition presents a selection of artists working within a variety of different techniques and media.
Through her etchings and watercolour paintings, Oxford-based artist Flora McLachlan creates windows into worlds of enchanted forests and frost covered moon-lit pools, inhabited by magical, solitary creatures illuminated by starlight. Acting as records of places both seen and imagined, McLachlan’s work is inspired by medieval poetry and the powerful, strange images from fairy tales and myths.
Fellow printmaker Nicola Kerslake explores the power of the moon in a rather more tangible way; creating etching plates by allowing the force of the tidal sea to scrape and rust away the protective varnish that coats the metal. The outcome is an abstracted ‘moon’ image, holding a unique quality, fuelled by the energy and power of the tide.
Winter Moon will open at the O3 Gallery in Oxford Castle Quarter for a launch celebration on Saturday 29th November from 5-8pm. The exhibition runs until Sunday 25th January 2015.
Entry is free and all artwork will be available to purchase.
