WILLIAM MCDERMID
About
The Hepsibah Gallery is delighted to welcome William Mcdermid.
On a sunny day in February a very tall vibrant eccentric man breezed in thru' the Gallery open doors with a remarkable but absolutely lovely joie de vivre and exclamations of 'I like this place. I want to show my paintings here.Aye.'
This was the said WILLIAM MCDERMID..' self taught Glaswegian artist living on his boat in Strawberry Hill'.
There were a gaggle of people standing around the gallery on that sunny day and they were all equally struck by this whirlwind with a Glaswegian voice. So I know already you will be charmed by the character of this man but what about his work? Well, you won't be disappointed. The paintings are bold, undisciplined, vibrant, eccentric and have a certain beauty. The paintwork is at times simple and naive and then in another complex and detailed. The work is thoughtful and inciteful AND as if this isn't enough for you there is another side to this WILLIAM MCDERMID. He writes. He writes well. I am enwrapped with his stories. He has agreed to do some readings on the Monday at 8pm. I recommend you visit the gallery during this show on more than one occasion, Aye ...(crikey he's got me at it now!) JH
