Willard Wigan's Micro-Sculptures
About
The exhibition at Eyestorm will feature between 20 and 30 pieces from the collection, including Henry VIII and his 6 wives in the eye of a needle, the Titanic on a pin head, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in the eye of a needle and Cassius Clay v Sonny Liston in a boxing ring on a pin head. It will also feature stolen works that have recently been found. In addition, by permission of its recent purchaser, Eyestorm have secured the sculpture of the Lloyds of London building for the exhibition. This piece, which sits on a pin head and is made from white gold and platinum, was recently bought for £94,000 at auction.
To enable viewers to see the work 'in the flesh' and gain a full understanding of the intricacies of each piece, the sculptures are housed in easy to view cases with microscope lenses. It is only at this point that the viewer gets a real sense of the scale of these astonishingly minute works, which have been described as 'the 8th wonder of the world'.
The exhibition will commence at the Eyestorm gallery on 6th September and run until 5th October, 2007.
