About

London- based artist Annette Philo investigates what we see and the way in which we see it through her work in film. By exploring different ways in which a mundane occurrence creates a visual event, the artist aims to drag seeing out of the visual process. With subject matter encountered in the natural environment, the images are worked upon digitally and subsequently transformed through subtle colour alteration. Sound is also used as a means of opening the possibility that events are occurring beyond the image that is offered to our vision and this generates a degree of anticipation on further images yet unseen. It is the environmental nature of her films and the use of a fixed frame that allows Philo to work with sound which supports the events occurring and appears to be connected to the footage, whether or not the sound originates from it.
