If recent times have taught us anything, it is the responsibility to question and understand the lens through which we are gazing at things.

At the center of Mio Okido’s work stand the role of the archival image and the Culture of Remembrance. Taking starting point in second world war images, sourced from public archives and family collections, Okido translates artifacts into new mediums with great attention to aesthetic detail. The beauty clashes with the collective memory of violent perpetration, exposing our underlying assumptions and the ambiguity of memory itself.
The paintings of Martin Aagaard Hansen reference the language that is drawing. His work is often inspired by ancient sagas and tales, as well as personal encounters. Recent times of isolation have paved the way for the lone observer to reappear in his works. As if arising from nature, a torso with seemingly antique references overlooks the scenery that fluctuates in abstraction. The composition of another work, created as homage to every day routines, stands as reminder that there are always multiple views on a given matter.
Moritz Riesenbeck's 1-minute video work is set in an undefined location. Observed in bird’s-eye view, the artist is running in slow motion on a ground that resembles an acre or the surface of the moon. With facial expressions shifting between hope and despair, he never seems to reach the goal. Played in a loop, the beholder watches history repeating itself. As the sun goes down, the video becomes more apparent in the window of the gallery, as if to conclude that in the end, the faith of an individual is interchangeable with that of a people.
