About

An exhibition of works by Melody Austin, Tania Carson, Rachelle Carswell, Lisa Weger, Celine Desert, Caitriona Fitzsimons, Christopher James Fraser, Rebecca Johnson, Tom Marsh, Stephen Riley, Matthew Vincent-Townend, Louise Yeandle Private View: 18th of May - 6 pm to 11 pm Exhibition runs from: 19th of May - 31st of May 2007 Gallery Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 2.30 pm - 6.30 pm Saturday: 1.00pm - 6.00pm “What Do You Think You’re Looking At?” is both the title of, and the question proposed by the latest exhibition to be held at the Red Gate Gallery in Brixton. Curated by artist Christopher James Fraser, it explores issues relating to the interactions between the factual and the fictional, the known with the unknown, as well as the beliefs generated through the observation and interpretation of those processes, as filtered through each viewer’s personal collection of previously acquired assumptions, prejudices and experiences. The works produced by the twelve artists taking part reflect a highly individual interpretation of the theme and its concerns, approaching it both obliquely and directly, and executed in a wide range of media, including painting, photography and sculpture and performance.
