The artists at Westland Place Studios are opening their doors to the public over the first weekend in October. All are welcome to meet the artists, view and buy their work or just explore their building.
About
Westland Place Studios is one of the oldest established artist communities in and around Hoxton and Old St. It's a hive of creativity home to painters, printmakers, photographers, sculptors, illustrators, ceramicists and designers. In total 23 artists occupy the evocative spaces spread over four floors of this former tobacco pouch and smokers' pipe factory.
The work of the resident artists spans a wide range of art disciplines and creative approaches. Its a stimulating environment for all those working in the building and an exciting place to visit.
The opening evening will include a special live performance commencing at 7PM.
THE GHOST OF MARIE ANTOINETTE
7pm Thursday 1 October 2015
A sung performance by Jan Goodkin based on the aria They are always with
me from John Corigliano’s opera The Ghosts of Versilles (1991). In it, the
sad and solitary voice of the ghost of Marie Antoinette vividly recalls the
horrific events the Queen concort endured as she took her final steps to the
guillotine. The performance lasts approximately 10 minutes and takes place on the fire
escape in the courtyard behind Westland Place Studios, 3-11 Westland Place, N1 7LP
