About

West Wednesdays walking art tour returns with a diverse range of art and artists.  On this occasion, we will visit Griffin Gallery, the studio of artist Epoh Beech at ACAVA’s Blechynden Street building and Lacey Contemporary Gallery, a recent arrival to the neighbourhood having just opened last year.

The evening begins with a tour of Griffin Gallery, led by curator Becca Pelly-Fry, of ‘White City’ by Chudmani Clowes.  Through a wide range of media, encompassing ceramic, print, painting, performance and sculpture, Clowes explores her own cultural and social history in relation to those around her.  A whirlwind of energy, she is fundamentally interested in human stories, particularly those of displacement and cultural differences.  ‘White City’ is open until Ocotber 2, 2015.

We then move on to the studio of Epoh Beech, a fine artist at ACAVA working in drawing, animation and painting. Beech trained as a fine artist at Studio Simi in Florence, Cheltenham College of Art and Chelsea School of Art, with an MA in Art Therapy from Hatfield University.

Her work connects to the landscape, literature and music and is concerned with the transformative journey of the unconscious. Beech lives and works in London where she exhibits work regularly.

Lacey Contemporary Gallery will be the next destination on the tour, hlighting the exhibition ‘Finding Paradise’ with a curator’s tour by Associate Director Tessa Yee.  The exhibition features three exciting, contemporary UK-based painters: Gemma Billington, Orlanda Broom and Ylva Kunze.  Each artist explores their own concept of 'Paradise' using bold vibrant colours and raw, sweeping, brushstrokes to form abstracted worlds and forgotten pasts, taking viewers into a personal and sacred space where they can discover their own Paradise.  ‘Finding Paradise’ is open until September 19, 2015.
