Exhibition
STADT/BILD. Image of a City
16 Sep 2015 – 08 Nov 2015
Berlinische Galerie
Berlin, Germany
The “jungle” at the heart of the group exhibition Welcome to the Jungle at KW Institute for Contemporary Art serves as a desired imaginary space, symbolizing the subconscious, potentially dangerous counterpart of the controlled urban environment.
The jungle marks a maximum distance from everyday life, as the name of the best-known discotheque in the history of West Berlin illustrates. In this group show, artistic positions by international and Berlin-based artists investigate ideas of the self and the other, and together draw a mental map of the present and the life forms within it, whether real or merely possible.
Curated by Ellen Blumenstein with the curatorial contribution of Filipa Ramos.
