Greg Rook's new paintings look to the wilderness myth of the first Americans and to the western landscape which inspired it.
Images of fence building, of rustic interiors and lonely exteriors, quasi-religious tableaux of sacrifice - these function as a metaphor for the artist's attempt to delineate his own creative and philosphical territory in a world where 'the old maps don't work any more'.
Greg Rook studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College (MA) and Painting at Chelsea College (BA). Recent exhibitions include Scope Art Fair London and Brownfield (Lounge and MAC Birmingham). Forthcoming shows include a solo exhibition at Gallery Min Min Tokyo in summer 2007.
