WE ARE HERE highlights Indigenous creatives working across media in the areas of film, visual art, and performance
About
WE ARE HERE is three-day arts festival exploring Indigenous past, present and future. The festival will include work by Indigenous visual artists, filmmakers and musicians who utilize their own technologies, ancestral knowledge, and survival tactics to reflect on what it means to live a “balanced” life during the “unbalanced” times of late stage capitalism. Although aesthetic approaches and creative practices vary, featured artists in this exhibition place Modernity and Tradition in dialogue with one another. "As Indigenous people, we face ongoing destruction by western technology, yet we are armed with our own ancestral knowledge and technologies. We accept the amalgamation of the two worlds within and around us. It fuels the creation of a “world in which many worlds can exist."(EZLN proverb)
