About

In the year in which the world celebrated Charles Darwin's bicentennial birthday, Ultimate Holding Company embarked on a once in a lifetime artist led social experiment in partnership with several leading conservation organisations. One hundred rare and endangered British species were identified and studied, before being delicately illustrated in pen and ink by artist Jai Redman and permanently tattooed onto one hundred willing volunteers in a continuous three-day public event. The Project has since remained live, with the focus of activity shifting towards the ambassadors as they work to protect and advocate for their species of rare birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, plants and fungi. The exhibition will document the legacy of the project from its inception in 2009, through to the current work of the ambassadors. We are extInked brings together the original pen and ink drawings, documentary footage of the tattooing process, the extraordinary photographic portraits of the ambassadors created on a rare 19th century camera by Anatomy Projects and documentation of the progress of the one hundred ambassadors as they work to advocate for their species.
