About
‘The elegant objects, cross the boundaries of painting and sculpture. They take on a new life, a dynamic energy that serves us up nuances of diverse interpretation.’
Gallery Director Rebecca Lidert
Sharon Newton is pleased to present Wayne Lucas GLO-RY at CNB Gallery. Wayne’s practice blurs the activities of painting and sculpture, reflecting and considering the human condition through a restless and obsessive accretion of materials. Recent works are both a physical play with ideas and a representation. The process and forms are entwined at every turn often interrupting the narrative. Helena Goldwater, in her essay
Taylor Made Remains describes his work as ‘neither pessimistic nor optimistic but a constant to and fro between the two. A trail of occurrences or activities, alerting us to the history of destruction, re-building destruction. His work is uplifting and hopeful that bears weightily in mind what has gone on before.’
The work is a distillation of the essence of life. Solitude, union, transience, perseverance and a sprinkling of magic glitter to animate the spirit beyond the flesh.
