"When the animal is put into visual form it seems inclined towards the stereotypical and the stupid. The image of the animal seems to function as some kind of visual shorthand, but a shorthand gone wrong, a shorthand whose meaning intermittently veer from and turn treacherously back upon that of the fuller form of the text."
