About

To complement Los Carpinteros’ exhibition, this participatory ‘walkshop’ will lead you from Parasol unit’s galleries into the surrounding neighbourhood and invite you to explore and ‘repatriate’ spaces. At points, we will stop to listen and observe, to sketch, collect, build or start discussion around themes that Los Carpinteros draw on. These include the use and control of ‘territory’ and the liminal spaces in our urban neighbourhoods. Part audio, photography, making and sketching walk, this innovative workshop will act as a catalyst for 3D creative thinking, and encourage collaboration and discussion around the meaning of Los Carpinteros’ work. This event is held in partnership with the Museum of Walking.

Biography

Andrew Stuck is a Walking Creative. His exploration began as an internationally recognised urban planner and transport professional. It is a journey of a curious and creative mind that has led Andrew to transform his work from urban planning roots into the development of the Museum of Walking and where the concept of the Walking Creative was born.

The passion and theme of all Andrew’s work is walking. If there is a way to express our connection to the world and to develop a connection to our surroundings it is by walking, coupled with artistic expression that is the ever constant thread to Andrew’s work. With unique and clever techniques Andrew will have you exploring, questioning and understanding far more about the world we inhabit and the changing spaces within.

Under the umbrella of the Museum of Walking, Andrew curates walking art projects and devises participatory walks and walking routes for people of all ages. As creator, co-ordinator and enabler of his unique Walking Creative participative programmes, his ‘walkshops’ have attracted the sponsorship and patronage of major clients from the public sector, the NHS and local government. As his reputation has spread, so has his reach and he now delivers walking programmes to NGOs, high profile galleries, museums, universities and the private sector.

For the last seven years Andrew has also been publishing podcasts as Talking Walking. These interviews with artists, activists and professionals from the world of walking explore how walking is the catalyst for their practice and how their work shapes our world. These are published as free 20 - 30 minute podcasts and more than 60 episodes have been published since 2008.
