Nathan Dean, Hannah Defriend, Phoebe Joy, Bill Parkin, Gabriella Halszka Rogula, Zory Rubel, Alex Stubbs, Rebecca Wymark

Surface Gallery is excited to host our Volunteer Show, The Exhibitionists, to round out 2018.

The Exhibitionists features artwork from our talented community of volunteers. This year's show reflects the diverse interests of the artists involved: from the quiet testaments of Rubel's recycled materials, to the meditative video-montages of Rogula, and the documentary photography of Stubbs depicting his view of the modern world. As with previous Volunteer Shows, The Exhibitionists is “filled to the brim with local talent” (Leftlion).

Opening Night Performance: The Vox Pops

30th November, 7-8pm

This year Surface Gallery will be mixing up the formula in a collaboration with the renowned MissImp house comedy troupe The Vox Pops. True stories are turned into hilarious comedy by the Vox Pops. Guests are invited to share some of their life experience with them, before then tearing these stories apart to find exciting and interesting details to inspire improvised sketches, scenes and characters. Praised by IMPACT magazine as “an Unpolished Charm”, the Vox Pops will leave the audience in stitches.

Insecurity: An Art Isn't Sexy Performance

Monday 10th December,

Performance: 7-8pm

Doors: 6pm

The Exhibitionists will also feature Art Isn't Sexy, a performance group led by Surface's very own Nathan Dean. Insecurity is an improvised theatrical act focusing on a character known as 'Jack'. When Jack is commissioned to write a play but sets nothing down until the final rehearsal, the cast will have to muddle through without script or director. Insecurity is a fully improvised performance exploring the nature of theatre, and the insecurities that come with such a turbulent environment.

On the door: £5

The Exhibitionists will open in the Main Gallery in conjunction with Unknown Knowns: An Exhibition by David Cantrill and Sophie Morton in the Project Space. As always there will be a donations bar with ales from local brewery, Pheasantry.
