"voir dire" Seeing saying, or seeing someone say something. This term from Middle French is fascinating because of the combination of visual perception and language.
About
In their works, the artists Sophia Schama and Maja Rohwetter abstain from linguistically concretisable representations and statements. Instead, their very different working methods emphasize the independence of visual formations and invite us to question the concepts of images and viewing habits.
In legal jargon, "voir dire" refers to the pre-swearing-in of a jury or jury court to check the impartiality of the participants.
Making a picture is a process, not only in the temporal sense, but also in the sense of a trial, which checks facts, assumptions and questions attitudes towards the picture. If one succeeds in freeing oneself from fixed pictorial concepts and painting styles, then the picture can surprise, challenge and open the view of authors and recipients.
