This hands-on textile workshop, run by Here Today Here Tomorrow, looks at how traditional craft can be combined with modern communication technologies to create acts of activism.
Activities will include a presentation and discussion on ‘craftivism’, including yarn bombing and guerrilla knitting, and an introduction to social media as a communication tool. There will be a knitting and pom-pom making activity, and students will be invited to attach their own social/environmental message to their pom-poms. These can be left around LCF sites, and social media and hashtags utilised to continue the conversation.
Here Today Here Tomorrow is a collaborative studio shop in east London for designing, making, showcasing and selling sustainable and ethical fashion. In 2011, the studio established its own fairtrade knitwear label. It uses fashion as a means of communication and empowerment, to encourage a shift in attitudes towards how we consume.
Here Today Here Tomorrow is a collaboration between
Anna-Maria Hesse, Julia Crew and Katelyn Toth-Fejel.
