VOCATIONAL LIFE DRAWING WORKSHOPS AT Red Gate Gallery,CAMBERWELL/BRIXTON
About
⢠Red Gate Gallery would like to inform our public about the start of vocational life drawing classes commencing from May 2008. The 4-hour long workshops will stretch over a 4 week period and are aimed at beginners as well as participants who would like to re-kindle their passion for life drawing and drawing.⢠The workshops are lead by South African born artist and printmaker Jonathan Comerford. Jonathan's approach is contemporary and innovative yet based on traditional techniques and skill. The objective of the workshop is to give participants a solid foundation of knowledge and skill as well as guidance to develop their own style or 'handwriting'. Participant numbers not greater than 10 per workshop will ensure good tutor/student rapport.
⢠Jonathan in collaboration with the gallery management will also give workshop participants help and vocational mentorship with regards to presentation of portfolios, (do's & don't do's) art work and exhibiting. Each participant will at the end of the 4 workshops walk away with a well presented portfolio of their own work.
It is wise to book early as places are limited. Please, contact Yara on 020 73260993 between 11am and 6.30pm Mon - Sat or e-mail her on info@redgategallery.co.uk for further information or to book your place. The gallery accepts debit and credit card payments.
Jonathan was born in Cape Town, where he matriculated and went on to study art at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Woodstock Cape Town, majoring in printmaking and drawing. Further study and practice of printmaking was done at Peacock Printmakers in Aberdeen, Scotland. In 1989 he returned to South Africa and established his private printmaking studio, Hard Ground Printmakers. He has exhibited at the LCC and is a member of the London Print Studio.
Jonathan Comerford is the recipient of the Volkskas Atelier Award, and spent 6 months at the Cite des Artes, Paris, France. He has taken part in numerous Print Bienniales and exchange programmes and has been a resident artist at the Grafische Werkstatt im Traklhaus, Salzburg, Austria.
