About

Visual Arts Scotland is pleased to once again present its Annual Open Exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy. Submissions from members and open entrants spanning visual and applied arts disciplines will be shown alongside the work of invited artists Tim Morgan and Deirdre Nelson to promote the quality and diversity of the arts in Scotland. Textiles by Deirdre Nelson cross boundaries between traditional craft and contemporary art. Hand skills are transposed though the work in a humorous commentary on social and textile history within the contemporary gallery. The work employs a variety of techniques and materials, fusing traditional textile skills and contemporary reinterpretation. In stark contrast Tim Morgan's architectural sculptures comprise thousands of hand-cut glass rods bound together with a steel belt, forming enclosed, light transmitting forms. Fragmented, crystalline patterns emerge, splintering the scene on the far side. All works in the exhibition are for sale.
