Show Gallery presents Visible Light by Cyrielle Gulacsy at their contemporary art space in Los Angeles. Cyrielle is a self-taught artist from Paris who works in various artistic disciplines. In her current work, Cyrielle attempts to build bridges between art and science by questioning the nature of the physical world in relation to human perception and representation.
Struck by the beauty of the sunrises and sunsets during her first trip to California in 2018, Cyrielle started studying the solar spectrum and the colour temperature variations depending on the sunlight’s interaction with the atmosphere.
Visible Light is her first body of work in color. The series of paintings are composed like windows opened to the sky that capture the magical and ephemeral instants of daylight. By breaking down the solar spectrum, each piece offers a moment of contemplation and invites the viewer into a deep meditation on the essence of Light: its origin, its nature, and its beauty.
The technique used by the artist - mixing layers of flat tints and abstract pointillism - gives form to the principle of “wave-particle duality” in quantum mechanics, characteristic of the photon, a particle of Light. In doing so, each painting opens the doors to the invisible and enables the viewer to grasp the reality of the physical world.
