Join this online conversation between artist Vishal Kumaraswamy and Zarina Muhammad (The White Pube) exploring the creative process behind Svāyattate (Autonomy), 2020 and to speculate on the future of feeling and the role of empathy in shaping and nurturing relationships between humans and machines.

About

For Empathy Loading, Bangalore-based artist Vishal Kumaraswamy will discuss the creative processes behind the making of Svāyattate (Autonomy) (working title) (2020). Joined in conversation by Zarina Muhammad, the exchange will centre on exploring the role empathy can play in how humans shape, cohabit and nurture their relationships with machines.

Addressing the language of autonomy within machine intelligence and sentience, Vishal Kumaraswamy’s practice considers alternative forms of caregiving and -receiving as a strategy to speculate on non-hierarchical relationships between humans and technology. For this event, Vishal Kumaraswamy and Zarina Muhammad will share alter-global perspectives on the futures of feeling to re-evaluate modes of cohabitation with non-humans.

Empathy Loading is a new online project exploring empathetic relationships between humans and networked non-humans. The project is developed by students from the MA Curating Contemporary Art Programme Graduate Projects 2020, Royal College of Art, London, in partnership with Furtherfield as part of their Love Machines summer programme.

This conversation will be held on Zoom and live-streamed on Empathy Loading’s social media channels. Admission is free, however, spaces are limited. Please register here to receive the link to join.
