Talk by David Jackson David Jackson works principally in the fields of nineteenth century Russian, Soviet and Nordic art, with teaching interests in the cultures of Classical Greece and Victorian Britain. His chief areas of research concern the formation of critical and national forms of realism in nineteenth century Russia and Scandinavia. He has published on 19th century Russian realism with particular reference to the works of Ilya Repin and is the author of The Russian Vision: the Art of Ilya Repin (BAI, 2006) and The Wanderers and Critical Realism in 19th Century Russian Painting (MUP, 2006). He was co-editor and contributor to the exhibition Russian Landscape at the Groninger Museum, Holland and the National Gallery, London 2003—2004 and was curator, co-editor and contributor to the exhibition Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931), The Spirit of Finland, at the Groninger Museum, 2006—2007 and a contributor to the Groninger Museum's recent major exhibition Russian Myths, Legends and Fairy Tales 2007-2008 He is currently working with the National Galleries in London and Edinburgh on an exhibition of the Danish painter Christen Købke for 2010, and with the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, as a contributor to the exhibition Naturalist Illusions: Pre Cinematic Salon Paintings, Photography and the Motion Picture 1875-1918, which will also open in 2010
