Event
Viking Cooking at Buckland Abbey
14 Dec 2024 – 17 Dec 2024
NT Buckland Abbey
Plymouth, United Kingdom
just opened
Free with admission
As you step into the Great Barn you will be transported through a forest and into a Viking Long Hall to celebrate Yule!
You'll find beautiful trees from the Buckland Abbey estate covered in twinkling lights and discover incredible lighting, sound and scent elements that will transport you back 1000 years.
Be sure not to miss the tallest tree at the end of the Barn, where you will meet the god Odin and admire the Northern Lights.
The Abbey will be decorated with handmade and hand-stitched items which will tell stories of the Vikings. There is also a spotting trail around the Abbey - the goddess Frejya's cats will tell you all about Viking Yule traditions, many of which you might recognise from your own Christmasses!
The Norse Tree Trail is a tree-spotting trail along the 'yellow' estate walking route. Some of the trees along the trail will have boards telling you more about their history, and their connections to the Vikings. This trail is free and requires no trail sheet - just start walking!
