About

The Hogsmill riverbank, immortalised in Millais' famous painting of Ophelia, becomes the focus of two special visual arts projects for IYAF 2011. The Blue Bridge that crosses the Hogsmill at Springfield Road, Kingston on Thames, provides hundreds of small frames or windows onto the river-view beyond. Working with artist Peter S. Smith, local primary school children from St John's School have each recorded an individual ‘window', drawn with charcoal on paper, and pieced them together to make an actual-sized collective drawing of the view seen through the bridge itself. The Stanley Picker Gallery is hosting a series of workshops for young people who are creating a floating artwork to be sent down the Hogsmill from the Gallery, under the Blue Bridge, and onwards to the Rose Theatre in the centre of the town. A film of their resulting River Adventure will be shown alongside the children's drawings. Why not come along and create your own drawing to help build our View through a Bridge? Event: Thursday 7 July 5:00pm - 8:00pm, special event to celebrate the finished drawing and film. All welcome!
